These next few weeks are going to be exciting ones for Jessica Guthrie Photography! Let's jump right into what's going on!
For starters, if you’d like to contact me, you can send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or message me through the Jessica Guthrie Photography Facebook page. You can also find me on Instagram and Twitter. And don't forget to sign up for my free monthly newsletter... you'll get information like the stuff below before anyone else, which will be helpful if you're interested in a mini session, class or special event that has limited spots!
When the October newsletter came out, the Postal Service still hadn't issued the studio an address... but it has one now! You can find Jessica Guthrie Photography at 101 South Madison in Pittsfield. And the phone number, which will be active Nov. 22, is (217) 407-4448.
The Grand Opening Celebration is almost here! IT kicks off at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22 with a ribbon cutting with the Pike County Chamber of Commerce, and then is immediately followed by a reception until 7 p.m. You'll be able to tour the studio (If you haven't already, you can see the sneak peek "before" video here), enjoy refreshments, and check out my favorite images I have captured over the years. I will also have limited discounted sessions available (the lowest prices I will ever offer!), and an opportunity for you to win a Just Gorgeous session for you and a friend! Gifts, giveaways, food from local businesses on the square... so much going on! I'm looking forward to seeing you there!
If you like up-cycled furniture you'll be happy to know that the majority of the pieces in the studio are for sale! Everything for sale is tagged with a price... you can keep tabs of new things I've created by visiting the Just Gorgeous Junque Facebook page.
Saturday, Nov. 26 is Small Business Saturday across the country and shoppers are encouraged to #ShopSmall! The studio will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and all of the tagged Just Gorgeous Junque will be 30 percent off! Yep! 30 percent off! If you've had your eye on one of these unique up-cycled pieces I have created, then this is the time to get it because prices won't be this low again until next November's Shop Small event! Haven't heard about Just Gorgeous Junque? Check out the Facebook page!
Create three wooden block ornaments using 12 to 16 of your favorite wallet-sized images... Just bring your prints and all of the other materials are included! Space is limited to 10 people. Participants must by 14 years or older. $20 per kit of three ornaments. Additional kits can be purchased as supplies allow. The workshop is from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6 at the studio, 101 South Madison in Pittsfield.
As of right now, I have three sessions available in the afternoon. Get those Christmas cards crossed off your holiday To Do list!
The Girls Night Out event was a huge success for me! Hundreds of ladies stopped by the studio, many of them pausing long enough for a Quick Portrait, which were posted to the Jessica Guthrie Photography Facebook page. Congratulations to Racheal Stout who was the Just Gorgeous portrait session winner! Thank you to everyone who stopped by!
I am looking for freelance hair stylists and makeup artists who would like to partner with me for Just Gorgeous sessions. These professionals should understand the techniques needed for photography and be willing to learn new styles, if necessary. And in case you haven't heard the rumors, the pay is pretty good...
Thank you to those of you who shared my request for models with your friends and family. I have two lovely ladies who have stepped up to be the "model with a horse," and "model with long hair." I can't wait to show you the images from those sessions at the Grand Opening!
I still have a few concept shoots I would like to do and need YOUR help finding the perfect “models!” Models for concept sessions must sign a model release allowing me to use their images for advertising (I never sell my portrait images to third parties!) and will receive free digital images and discounts on image products showcasing the session’s portraits. Minors under 18 must have parental permission. If you are interested in being one of these models, please contact me with a photo of yourself (or child).
8 to 12-day old baby, boy or girl, for a Christmas-themed image. This child needs to have been born in the last 10 days.
Daughter (teens or 20s), mother and grandmother, who would like a portrait session together. (This session will take place in January)
I need a woman who is between the ages of 25 ad 35 and doesn't mind braving snow in a wedding dress. She must be a size 8 and have long hair. (This session will take place once we have significant snowfall.)
Want to give your special someone a gift they’ll never forget? Or maybe YOU are on your Christmas list this year… either way, a Just Gorgeous portrait session would be a wonderful way to celebrate! These sessions include hair styling and makeup application, and are stylized for each individual woman. These sessions range from contemporary glamour portraiture, 50’s pin-up, sexy boudoir… whatever session you have always dreamed of doing! Pamper yourself and let me show you just how gorgeous you are, inside and out!
Start thinking about Christmas cards! A beautiful family session among the fall color would be fantastic… there is still a little bit left out there! I can create custom cards that suit your style. I also do snow sessions... if we happen to get an early snowfall (hopefully not!) you can truly have a “white Christmas” family portrait!
Looking for a unique holiday gift? I created an online store for clients who would like to purchase the landscape images I captured during my time in Japan. Simply head over to the gallery shop and start browsing!
There is a quick way to make your photos look more professional... the technique is called the Rule of Thirds. Instead of placing your horizon line (where the sky meats the land or water) or subject (person or thing you're taking pictures of) in the middle of your frame, try off-setting them like in the diagram below. The rectangle is your viewfind or smartphone screen.
Offset images are more interesting to the human eye and are considered "better" because they are more appealing.
So you made it all the way to the bottom of this!? Whew! Thank you for your dedication! Be sure to join my email list to ensure you get the latest news and first crack at limited portrait sessions!
