Classes and Workshops
Available photography workshops and classes are listed below. Everyone must take Photography 101 as a prerequisite to other classes so that all participants have the same base of knowledge as they enter into more advanced curriculum. To register, send an email to email@example.com.
A Photography 101 class was featured on AFN Iwakuni television. Click here to see this 2-minute video and learn more about the class.
2.5 hours at the Jessica Guthrie Photography Home Studio in Pittsfield, $60
This is a prerequisite for any other DSLR classes. Stop using the "green box" automatic mode on your DSLR and start making the most of what your basic camera settings have to offer! Learn about reciprocity (f-stops, shutter speed, ISO), white balance, focus points, image quality and basic composition. Maximum of 8 people.
Dates offered for Fall 2017:
9:30 -11:30 a.m. Sat. Sept. 30; 2-4:30 p.m. Sun, Oct. 1; 9:30-11:30 a.m. Sat. Nov. 4
The Nov. 4 class has a Photography 102 workshop after a lunch break, convenient for new photographers who want to maximize their time.
These workshops are for hobby photographers who want to get beyond the basics. Photographers must take Photography 101 (above) before taking the workshops below.
Photography 102 - 2 hours at the Jessica Guthrie Photography Home Studio in Pittsfield, $40.
We will briefly review concepts from Photography 101, and then dive into how and when to use different lenses, the best ways to capture action (sports) photography, and go over flash photography basics. Maximum of 8 people.
Date offered for Fall 2017: Saturday, Nov. 4: 2-4 p.m. Meet at the home studio (follows a Photography 101 workshop that day, but participants who have already taken Photography 101 can still join).
Indoor/Natural Light Portrait Photography - 1.5 hours at the Jessica Guthrie Photography Home Studio in Pittsfield, $40.
Who says you need a flash to get great indoor photos? In fact, people look better in natural light than they do with basic flash. Learn how to make the most of the existing natural light in your home and other locales, tips and techniques for setting up the shots you're looking for, and the tools you might want to have on hand. We'll even talk about where to place your Christmas tree so you can get the best Christmas morning pics! Maximum of 8 people.
Date offered: Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017: 10-11:30 a.m.
Night Photography - 2 hours starting at the Jessica Guthrie Photography Home Studio in Pittsfield, $40.
Learn how to capture the magic of beautiful night scenes. We will discuss appropriate shutter speeds, using the timer feature most DSLR cameras have, reducing camera shake during long exposures, composition for night time photography, and more. A tripod and flashlight are required for this workshop. The use of a wide-angle lens is recommended, but not required. Maximum of 8 people.
Dates offered: Thursday, Oct. 10, 2017. 7:30-9 p.m.
Photoshop Creative Cloud Crash Course - 4 hours at the Jessica Guthrie Photography Home Studio in Pittsfield, $100.
Learn what you need to know to immediately begin editing portraits and landscapes to better enhance your images. We will go over the most commonly used tools, discuss simple and easy techniques to "save" imperfect images, and talk about time-saving actions and shortcuts. Because this workshop is hands-on for your learning efficiency, you must have Photoshop Creative Cloud ($9.99 a month; no other programs are acceptable) downloaded on to a laptop computer in order to take this workshop. Workshop limited to 6 participants. Plan for 30 minutes of homework prior to the workshop.
Dates offered: 1-5 p.m. Sat. Dec. 2
Photoshop Creative Cloud: The Next Level - 4 hours at the studio, $100.
Take your Photoshop skills to the next level. We will discuss a few advanced skills, such as "swapping heads" on people, but also have a considerable amount of time for Q and A, so bring your tough questions! Because this workshop is hands-on for your learning efficiency, you must have Photoshop Creative Cloud ($9.99 a month; not any other programs are acceptable) downloaded on to a laptop computer in order to take this workshop.
